Capt Adam and Allen had a great fishing trip this afternoon. The fishing a little bit slow to begin with. We started off catching some small bonitos and mackerels. The bite on the troll was slow to say the least. We had a bait well full of live speedo mackerel, so we decided to switch over and start slow trolling some live baits. The best bite has been in about 300-400′ of water lately for sailfish and tuna, so thats where we set up. A half hour went by with no bites, but the waters looked good so we stuck with it. Then we get a monster strike on the left short bait. No one saw the fish bite, but we caught tell it was big by how strong the bait got pulled from the rigger and the initial run the fish took was amazing. The fish stripped off about 1/2 a spool of line before we finally started to gain on him. Once the fish stopped his big run, he actually came to the boat pretty easy. It took us about 15 minutes to fight him in. Allen actually thought it might have been a shallow water swordfish by how he was fighting and staying deep the whole fight. When the fish came within visual distance, we instantly knew it was a monster wahoo. We gaffed him, threw him in the boat and headed back home heroes for pictures and beer! There are some big wahoo biting out there and sailfish too. Sailfish season has just begun and will continue to get better and better over the next couple months. Good fishing today! Sea ya on the water.
