The Big Game sportfishing boat caught a nice barracuda and a good sized dolphin today on the morning trip. The morning was a little slow out there, but we managed to catch a couple good ones. We started off kite fishing with some live baits and the action was slow. After a while of sitting there with no action we had about a 12 pound dolphin swim up on us. The mate fed the fish and came tight on him. The dolphin jumped every which way but loose and he’s going to make a delicious dinner for Captain Johan, since the customer left the fish for him since he doesn’t eat fish. After a little while of no more kite fishing action, we made a move and stopped at a shallow shipwreck where we put out some live baits. We caught a really nice barracuda for the other guy on the boat, trophy sized one.
The afternoon trip was a little better. We started off trolling and caught a bonito and another dolphin fish, about an 8 pounder. Later on we popped the kite up and got hooked into a huge sailfish. The fish charged the boat and made some jumps directly at us. He came completely out of the water 4 times and put on one helluva show for us. We got the fish up to the boat and released him after the customers got some photos. I hope they send me some pictures because I didn’t have my camera aboard today. It was a good sportfishing trip this afternoon.
The drift boat had a good day too. They got into some dolphin and caught a nice kingfish. It wasn’t red hot fishing today out of Fort Lauderdale but it wasn’t terrible. We did catch some nice fish and everybody that went out had a good time. Fishing looks good tommorrow and with the east wind there should be some good fish around. Sea you all out there.
