The mahi-mahi are biting awesome this week in Fort Lauderdale. This hard east wind we’re having the past couple days has gotten the mahi-mahi active and chewing. The drift boats are catching them, the all day trip is catch A LOT of them, our sportfishing boat is catching some BIG ones… fishing is good this week. Some scattered blackfin tunas, kingfish and a couple nice wahoo have also hit the dock this week. Vermillion snapper season has just opened up, but we’ve been ignoring them in favor of the excellent mahi-mahi bite that is going on. The great thing is that these dolphin fish are biting in only 100-300ft of water, in close only a mile offshore.
Today’s drift fishing trip aboard the Catch My Drift was great. We caught 11 mahi-mahi, a couple kingfish and 2 nice mutton snappers. The mahi-mahi hit us as a school, and we caught all 11 fish at the same time. We had 12 people on the boat and everybody that had a line in the water got hooked up. Almost every trip we’ve had this week, both drift fishing trips and our sportfishing charters, has caught mahi-mahi. Fishing is excellent in Fort Lauderdale right now. The next couple weeks should give us a lot of action. Good luck out there fishing everyone. Sea ya on the water.
